“Today, President Aquino signed into law Republic Act No. 10351, otherwise known as the Sin Tax Reform Act of 2012.

“This is a historic win for reforms. This is the first time in sixteen (16) years that a sin tax bill is passed in favor of the government and its health objectives for the young and the poor unduly exposed to the ill effects of smoking and excessive drinking.

“The events and monumental achievements of the past weeks should put to rest any lingering doubts on government’s ability to deliver on its commitments. With the recent significant legislative milestones and the soaring trust and approval ratings of the President, the momentum for reforms and transformation has clearly accelerated. President Aquino has clearly demonstrated the strength of his administration to realize the transformational agenda in his Social Contract with the Filipino People.”
