The Department of Finance (DOF), through the Bureau of the Treasury (BTr), has collaborated on an asset management initiative with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to better safeguard government assets against potential risks.

Inked on March 31, 2025, the memorandum of agreement (MOA) allows both government agencies to share and exchange data through the DOST’s GeoRiskPH platform and the BTr’s National Asset Registry System (NARS).

“The protection and effective management of our assets are critical to our nation’s economic health. I commend both agencies for spearheading this best practice. By enabling interoperability between these two vital systems, we are not only strengthening our ability to manage financial risk and deliver better services—we are also laying the foundation for long-term, sustainable asset management,” Finance Secretary Ralph G. Recto said.

Led by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), GeoRiskPH serves as the central resource of information on natural hazards and risk assessment.

Meanwhile, NARS is the central repository of strategically important and critical non-financial assets of the national government.

Since its inception in 2018, NARS has grown to contain assets worth over PHP 2 trillion. It is being used by 59 government agencies and instrumentalities.

“We are constantly seeking to expand the capabilities of the NARS, so it is our priority to utilize all available tools and resources to improve the system. We are excited about this collaboration with the DOST. The BTr and DOST have been longstanding partners in our country’s goal to be more resilient to disasters,” National Treasurer Sharon P. Almanza said.
